Boating on the

Isle of Wight.

Boating around the Isle of Wight can be so much fun! There are many harbours to choose from. Starting with West Wight we have Yarmouth. This is a lovely old town, it is small and there is not much to do there, but it is a good base to use as it`s near The Needles and Freshwater Bay and not far away on the `Mainland`, Poole in Dorset. Cowes is also a famous port of call. With it`s traditions and Royal connections. This town is also a good base as it is close to Southampton and is central to The Solent. It serves the river Medina which leads to Newport. The Medina is quite a busy river as there are quite a few yacht clubs and boat building and repair shops.

Ryde now has a harbour which is tidal. This is also a good base as you are near Portsmouth, Seaview, Southampton and the many yacht clubs along The Solent. Ryde also has a very good reputation for the amenites. There is Ice Skating, Bowls, Ten-pin Bowling Swimming, Shopping. There is also Cycle Hire by apointment from one of the Islands oldes shops. It is well over 100 years old! BATTERSBY CYCLES, 2 HILL STREET, RYDE. Telephone number is 01983 562039. If you do phone mention this webpage please.
