Amazing Photographs.

Over the course of my life, one sees all kinds of things.

This page has photos that have caught my imagination. Most of the photos have been nicked (borrowed on permanent loan!) from all sorts of sources. In ALL cases, I have tried to give credits when known.

The Light Fantastic.

This is the Earth at night, as captured on satellite pictures. And its all light! Street lamps and car headlights are visible (on actual photo) - pointing to mans relentless spread across mother Earth. The image is a combination of photograph's taken by US military satellites 488 miles above the Earth. They captured each time zone when there was a new moon. The brightest spots are Britain, Holland, southern Italy, Japan and the coasts of America! They have the most concentrated amounts of city neon, car headlamps and street and household lighting. Africa remains dark and much of South America, Asia and Russia are similarly invisible. India is surprisingly bright - a reflection of sheer density of its population. The picture also reflects a major population shift. Ten years ago, a third of mankind lived in cities. Now it is half! Project chief Marc Imhoff said: "The lights are like biological growth."

My own thoughts on this is that we use allot of electric, and most of this is wasted by lighting up the sky and polluting the atmosphere with it. Soon, when we look up into the heavens we will see no stars, but a warm red glow! Its also amazing that a band of light stretches from England all the way to Japan! This I believe to be the spread of population from the railway that spanned this part of the world. And over time, it has widened!
